Auto Detailing – Advice From An Expert

Car maintenance can often seem a little daunting for the uninitiated, but it’s really a simple process of keeping on top of your auto detailing to keep things in good working order. Read our handy how-to guide for more information. Auto detailing is really simple – it just refers to the fact you need to pay attention to the little things as well as the big when you’re cleaning your car to keep it looking great and running the way you want it to.

While the outside of the car may be the first thing people see, it’s also worth paying attention to the inside. Run a small vacuum cleaner around all those hard to reach spots to remove dust and grime, which not only improves the car’s appearance but will prevent the build up of harmful bacteria. You can also use mild kitchen or bathroom cleaners to remove any sticky stains that may have built up around the cup holders or any other areas prone to spillage.

When the inside of the car’s done, it’s time to spend some time on the exterior. Washing your car is something you should do regularly, and preferably by hand. Use clean sponges and equipment as using dirty ones won’t really help matters. This will prevent grime sticking to your car, so it’s a worthwhile thing to do. Try and avoid going through the car wash if you can, as abrasive cleaning products and sponges can leave faint, swirled scratches in your paintwork.

Waxing is another vital part of auto detailing that contributes to the upkeep of your car. You only need to do this twice a year, but it can be worth doing it every couple of weeks to build up a good shine using compounds or clear coat restoration materials. At the same time, you should look for any paint chips as these will need to be filled in with touch-up paint as soon as possible to prevent rust forming in the gap.

Finally, don’t forget the importance of keeping an eye on the engine compartment as this requires maintenance, too. Make sure to keep the electrical components under cover and regularly use a good engine degreaser. Leave it for a while so it soaks into the dirt before spraying it off with a hose. Regularly rub an emollient such as Vaseline into rubber hoses to keep them from drying out and cracking. Follow these simple steps to keep your car in tip top shape both inside and out.
